Authorities in Key West apprehended 10 migrants who came ashore Thursday morning at Fort Zachary Taylor State Park, a historic landmark featuring a pre-Civil War fortress. Law enforcement from multiple agencies converged on the 601 Howard England Way location at approximately 9 a.m. to secure the scene.
The Key West Police Department and Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission were first to respond to the waterfront incident. The U.S. Coast Guard and U.S. Customs and Border Protection joined the operation, securing the vessel used in the transit.
Federal authorities took control of the migrants, while law enforcement officials seized the maritime vessel involved in the landing. The apprehension marks another maritime interdiction in the strategic waters surrounding the southernmost Florida Keys.
