President Donald Trump announced Wednesday that White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt will step down from her position by the end of January to focus on family commitments. In a statement, Trump indicated that Leavitt would transition to a new capacity within his political operation rather than leave entirely.
Trump characterized Leavitt as one of his most trusted aides and said she will assume a senior advisory position outside the White House while maintaining influence within Republican Party leadership. The president emphasized her continued involvement in efforts to secure GOP victories in upcoming midterm elections.
The president credited Leavitt with substantial contributions across his administration and campaign apparatus, highlighting her role in the 2024 presidential campaign. Trump described her tenure as press secretary among the most effective in the history of the position, citing her advocacy for what he termed “Justice, Liberty, and Freedom” since 2018.
No successor to Leavitt’s current role was named in Trump’s announcement. The White House did not immediately provide additional details regarding the timeline for filling the vacant press secretary position.
