Former ‘Real Housewives’ Star Slams Andy Cohen Over Defense of Conservative Casting

Kelly Dodd, who previously starred on “Real Housewives of Orange County,” challenged the reasoning behind Andy Cohen’s recent comments defending the network’s casting choices. Dodd took issue with Cohen’s statement to Threads that the show benefits from including women with diverse viewpoints, dismissing his position as inauthentic.

Cohen had responded to questions about the prevalence of “MAGA women” on the franchise by emphasizing that the series focuses on the lives and relationships of its cast members rather than political ideology. He stated that showcasing different perspectives was essential to the show’s existence, but Dodd disputed this characterization.

In an interview with Fox News Digital, Dodd argued that Cohen and Bravo historically disregarded conservative viewpoints before shifting strategy due to audience erosion. She suggested the network’s sudden openness to diverse political perspectives stemmed from declining ratings rather than genuine creative conviction.

Dodd also noted that Cohen had previously criticized conservative commentators and questioned whether the show genuinely welcomed different ideological positions. She attributed the network’s pivot to desperation, citing concerns that political discussions alienate significant portions of the viewing audience.

Cohen maintained that the “Real Housewives” franchise operates independently of political content, and Dodd echoed this position while emphasizing that political discourse had been largely absent from episodes before the pandemic. Neither Bravo nor NBCUniversal offered comment, and Cohen’s representatives did not immediately respond to requests for additional statements.

Dodd and other cast members have departed from or been removed from the franchise following controversial statements or expressions of conservative political views. Dodd was terminated in 2021 after making remarks about COVID-19 and facing allegations of mocking the Black Lives Matter movement.

Annemarie Wiley, a former “Real Housewives of Beverly Hills” cast member, similarly told Fox News Digital last year that she was excluded from future casting invitations after her 2024 departure, which she attributed to her conservative positions on issues such as girls’ athletics. Wiley claimed she received an unfavorable edit after expressing these views.
