Students in Broward County, Monroe County, and schools overseen by the Archdiocese of Miami are returning to class as South Florida faces a dangerous heat event. The National Weather Service has issued a heat advisory lasting from noon through 7 p.m. Wednesday, as heat index values are expected to soar into the triple digits despite actual high temperatures only reaching the low 90s.
Overnight lows Wednesday will settle in the mid-80s, with heat index readings already climbing into the 90s by morning. The combination of high temperatures and humidity will create hazardous conditions that prompted the advisory for the region.
Weather conditions will vary slightly across the area, with reduced wind activity directing most rainfall chances toward inland portions of Broward and Miami-Dade counties, particularly west of the Turnpike. Residents should prepare for potential afternoon thunderstorms by having rain gear readily available.
