The Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office has made public body camera footage documenting a deputy-involved shooting that took place on December 28 near Northwest 17th Avenue and 95th Street. A prosecutor’s review of the incident has concluded the officer’s use of force was legally permissible under the circumstances of the encounter.
The incident unfolded when a deputy initiated a traffic stop on a vehicle suspected of being stolen. The driver then accelerated away from the scene, narrowly avoiding striking the deputy in the process. In response, the officer discharged his weapon at the fleeing automobile.
Authorities later discovered the vehicle a short distance away and recovered a firearm from inside, though the driver remained at large. The Miami-Dade State Attorney’s Office subsequently determined the deputy acted within legal bounds when firing his weapon.
