A recreational vessel overturned in waters near Liberty Island on Saturday evening, claiming the lives of two passengers, according to officials. Among those killed were a 27-year-old woman and a 5-month-old child who were aboard the craft at the time of the incident.
The boat was carrying a total of 14 people when the accident occurred. Emergency responders were dispatched to the scene following reports of the capsizing, though details regarding rescue efforts and the circumstances surrounding the overturn remained limited.
Investigators are continuing to examine the incident. The identities of the deceased have not yet been released pending notification of family members.
