The Boston Red Sox fell short in their pursuit of a historic second double-digit winning streak, suffering a 7-3 defeat at the hands of the Oakland Athletics on Saturday. Boston’s nine-game winning run came to an end after the team had previously achieved a franchise-record 15-game streak earlier this season, matching a mark set in 1946.
Oakland’s pitching led the offensive charge, with starter Gage Jump delivering six strong innings while striking out 11 batters and allowing just two runs on six hits. Tyler Soderstrom and Henry Bolte each contributed solo home runs, while Jonah Heim and Donovan Walton added two-run doubles to fuel the Athletics’ comeback.
The Athletics overcame an early two-run deficit by scoring strategically across the fourth, fifth, and sixth innings. Hogan Harris earned his 10th save by recording the final four outs as Oakland snapped a nine-game losing streak that had lasted since July 28.
Boston first baseman Willson Contreras returned from a two-game illness absence but struggled at the plate, going hitless in four at-bats and drawing boos from the home crowd on a light jog during a ground out. Red Sox starter Jake Bennett permitted four runs over five and two-thirds innings.
