Student Opens Fire at Thai High School, Killing at Least Five Teachers and Two Grandparents

A high school student in Thailand opened fire at Debsirin Nonthaburi School in Nonthaburi province, located northwest of Bangkok, on Friday, according to Royal Thai Police spokesperson Trairong Piwpan. The attack resulted in multiple fatalities and injuries, with initial casualty figures varying among officials responding to the incident.

Deputy Interior Minister Polapee Suwunchwee stated that five teachers were killed in the school shooting and that the gunman had fatally shot his two grandparents at his home before proceeding to the educational facility. The shooter later died at a hospital following the attack, Suwunchwee told reporters.

Students sheltered in classrooms as gunfire erupted from another section of the school building, witnesses reported. Police officers subsequently forced entry and evacuated the trapped students from the premises.

Conflicting casualty reports emerged from Thai officials. Health Minister Pattana Promphat indicated that 22 people sustained injuries, with nine in critical condition, though some injuries resulted from falls rather than gunshot wounds. Trairong reported 15 individuals hurt total, including two in critical condition, while documenting three teachers and three students as killed.

Thai authorities believe the firearm used in the attack was obtained from a family member of the shooter, though the exact circumstances of how the weapon was accessed remain under investigation.
