Missouri Man, 73, Kills Mother and Teen Daughter After Confronting Them Over Neighborhood Dispute

A Missouri neighborhood confrontation escalated into tragedy when Robert Winkelman, 73, opened fire on his neighbors in House Springs on July 25, fatally wounding a mother and her teenage daughter. Winkelman approached 38-year-old Jessica Lashly’s home to air grievances about ongoing activity at the residence, according to the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office. The initial complaint centered on noise disturbances, though investigators determined Winkelman harbored deeper frustrations about the family’s household conduct.

When Lashly responded to Winkelman’s confrontation, he drew a firearm and shot her in the head. Her 17-year-old daughter, Jersey Greer, rushed to assist her mother and was also shot by Winkelman. A third individual at the scene was pursued by the gunman but escaped without injury, sheriff’s officials said. Both victims were transported to a local hospital, where they succumbed to their wounds days later.

Responding deputies encountered Winkelman at his residence and moved to apprehend him. Rather than surrender, Winkelman turned the weapon on himself. He died at a local hospital on August 2, investigators confirmed. Had Winkelman survived, he would have faced two counts of first-degree murder and two counts of armed criminal action.

Jersey’s twin sister, Justice Greer, praised her sibling’s character and courage during her final moments. “She was literally just the funniest person ever,” Justice told KSDK, describing her sister’s compassionate nature and ability to uplift those around her. Justice noted that Jersey’s instinct to protect their mother demonstrated extraordinary bravery in the face of violence.

Lashly was remembered as a dedicated single mother who devoted herself entirely to supporting her daughters. Abby Feldmann, who coached both twins in lacrosse, described Jersey as someone with an exceptional ability to inspire and lead her peers. “There’s not one person who would refuse to follow her,” Feldmann said of the teenager.
