OutKick Founder Clay Travis Eyes French Trans Player for Proposed Nashville WNBA Franchise

French transgender basketball player Julie Tetart’s ambition to compete in the WNBA moved closer to reality after OutKick founder Clay Travis publicly announced his intention to recruit her for a potential league expansion team. During a Wednesday episode of the “Don’t @ Me” podcast with Dan Dakich, Travis revealed his vision for a Nashville-based franchise that would prioritize inclusive roster construction.

Tetart, who led France’s Ligue 2 in scoring and rebounding during the 2025-26 season, told OutKick on Monday that she would welcome contact from the WNBA despite expressing realistic doubts about her competitive standing. “If they contact me, I won’t say no. But you have to be realistic: I’m old, and there are far better players than me!” the 6-foot-3 athlete said.

Travis has submitted a franchise application for the proposed team, to be called the Nashville Balls, with what he describes as an explicitly inclusive approach to roster construction. “Our slogan is ‘One love, two balls.’ And we’re going to absolutely dominate the WNBA,” Travis told Dakich, adding that the organization would exclusively sign players who identify as women.

The OutKick founder drew comparisons between his envisioned dynasty and legendary programs led by UCLA’s John Wooden and the Boston Celtics under Bill Russell. Travis contends that the WNBA’s commitment to inclusivity would necessitate signing Tetart if the league follows through on its stated values regarding transgender athletes.

Tetart is not the only trans player establishing herself in elite European basketball. Aurore Pautou, 43, competes in France’s Ligue 2 and ranks among the league’s leading scorers and rebounders despite having no prior history in high-level basketball before joining at age 40.
