Florida Toddler Dies Days After Becoming Trapped in Toy Kitchen at Babysitter’s Home

A Boynton Beach family is grieving the loss of their 3-year-old daughter, Briella, who died July 27 following a tragic accident at a babysitter’s residence. The child became entrapped with her head stuck inside a toy kitchen play set on July 23, prompting emergency responders to rush to the Meadows of Boynton Beach community shortly after 11 a.m. after receiving reports that the toddler was unresponsive.

Officers initiated emergency medical procedures at the scene while Boynton Beach Fire Rescue transported the child to a nearby hospital, where she remained in critical condition for four days before succumbing to her injuries. According to police investigators, the toddler and her sibling were under the care of the babysitter’s spouse while the primary babysitter had temporarily left the residence. The spouse was upstairs during the incident, periodically checking on the children and providing snacks.

During one welfare check, the caregiver discovered the toddler with her head trapped inside the play kitchen and immediately freed her while beginning life-saving measures until first responders arrived. Investigators determined that toys had fallen inside the kitchen structure, and the child became stuck while attempting to retrieve them, according to statements from her sibling. The Palm Beach County Medical Examiner’s Office has not yet released the official cause and manner of death, and authorities have announced no criminal charges as the investigation continues.
