Tylasia Bennett, 25, is in custody following her arrest on multiple charges stemming from an incident Friday night in Miramar. Officers responded to a 911 report of a silver Ford weaving through traffic near Miramar Parkway and 184th Avenue around 11:30 p.m., with the caller reporting the vehicle had nearly struck an 18-wheeler.
When police located the car with its engine still running, they discovered a 2-month-old sitting unrestrained in the passenger seat. Bennett told officers she had moved the infant to the front seat because the child was crying and explained that food visible on the baby’s clothing had been accidentally dropped during the drive.
Law enforcement detected alcohol on Bennett’s breath, and she subsequently failed field sobriety tests administered at the scene. She is now facing charges of driving under the influence, operating a vehicle with a suspended license, and child neglect without great bodily harm.
