Authorities in North Miami Beach arrested a woman accused of assaulting a Jewish patron at an in-store Starbucks this past weekend. The incident at the Target located at 14075 Biscayne Boulevard occurred around 2:40 p.m. Sunday and police classified the attack as motivated by hatred.
Chyvonne Juanita Palmer, 43, of North Miami allegedly rose from her seat and approached the victim, who was wearing a yarmulke across the Starbucks seating area. According to an arrest report, Palmer screamed and yelled at the man before striking him twice with a cellphone and returning to her own seat.
Witnesses told officers that Palmer then retrieved a metal chair and advanced toward the victim again while repeatedly shouting “I hate them.” Two women in the vicinity intervened to prevent further violence, with one escorting the man to the men’s bathroom for safety.
Police charged Palmer with aggravated battery, aggravated assault with a deadly weapon with prejudice, and disorderly conduct. When questioned, her statements were inconsistent and unrelated to the attack, officers noted in the report. Palmer remained in custody at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center with bail listed as pending as of Monday morning.
