The intrusion occurred overnight between Wednesday and Thursday of the previous week, with authorities discovering the breach the following morning and subsequently taking the system offline as a protective measure.
Officials stated they found no evidence suggesting the attackers modified, deleted or otherwise altered any of the exposed data during the incident. The registry in question functions as a central tool in the nation’s anti-money laundering and counter-terrorism financing infrastructure, maintaining records on the true ownership structures behind various business entities and legal arrangements.
The Alpine nation, home to roughly 40,000 residents and situated between Switzerland and Austria, relies heavily on its financial services sector as an economic cornerstone. In response to the security incident, Liechtenstein’s government established a specialized crisis management team over the weekend to conduct a comprehensive investigation into the attack’s scope and origins.
