Ohio Republican Miller Vows to Stay in Race Amid Domestic Abuse Allegations

Rep. Max Miller of Ohio reasserted his commitment to his congressional re-election campaign through a livestreamed video Sunday, rejecting calls to withdraw as he faces domestic abuse accusations from his former spouse. The Republican lawmaker, who has received backing from President Donald Trump, confronts a Wednesday deadline to decide whether to remain on the ballot in his northeast Ohio district as scrutiny intensifies over the allegations.

Emily Moreno, ex-wife of Miller and daughter of U.S. Sen. Bernie Moreno, has accused the congressman of scalding, striking and making threats against her during their marriage. Miller categorically denied these claims in his video statement, maintaining his innocence as he has done previously. Moreno’s representatives declined immediate comment on his statements.

A separate dispute centers on a fractured collarbone sustained by the couple’s 2-year-old daughter, which prompted Moreno to contact law enforcement. Miller stated he bore no responsibility for the injury, while court documents and police records show the former spouses have offered conflicting explanations for how the incident occurred, according to reporting by Mother Jones magazine.

Miller and Moreno married in 2022 and finalized their divorce last year. Democratic leaders have called for Miller’s resignation and an ethics investigation, while signaling potential increased support for his Democratic opponent, union ironworker Brian Poindexter, ahead of November’s general election.
