A close friend of Tyler Wilkin described the moment she learned the 35-year-old Ohio native had been discovered shot dead in Puerto Rico as emotionally devastating. Jules Santiago, who had known Wilkin for two years and resides on the island, told Fox News Digital that the news hit her with overwhelming shock and disbelief.
Wilkin’s body was found on July 10 with a single gunshot wound to the back of his head on Playa La Selva in Luquillo, according to reports describing the killing as execution-style. The Ohio-born resident had relocated to Puerto Rico in 2024 and was on a camping trip when he was discovered.
Santiago recalled her reaction to receiving the call, saying she could barely process the information and had to ask the same question multiple times to confirm it was actually Wilkin. She emphasized her disbelief that such violence could befall someone she described as “full of life.”
The FBI confirmed its involvement in assisting with the investigation into the homicide. Puerto Rico police have identified a person of interest in the case, according to local reporting from El Nuevo Dia.
A fundraiser launched to support the investigation into Wilkin’s death has raised tens of thousands of dollars as authorities continue their work.
