The Miami Dolphins’ offensive unit produced its strongest showing of the summer Sunday during the franchise’s inaugural fan-attended practice at Baptist Health Training Complex in Miami Gardens. Hundreds of spectators filled the stands to witness the non-padded workout, marking the debut practice under head coach Jeff Hafley and offensive coordinator Jon-Eric Sullivan.
Miami’s offensive playmakers quickly established momentum from the opening drive. Running back De’Von Achane gained 10 yards on the first snap, bursting through the left side behind tackles Patrick Paul and Kadyn Proctor. Quarterback Malik Willis took command of the first-team offense, connecting with tight end Cole Turner on a 10-yard out route and establishing a 20-yard gain to receiver Malik Washington on a slant.
Willis orchestrated an impressive deep shot to South Florida native Tutu Atwell, who hauled in a 60-yard reception before safety Dante Trader Jr. corralled him near the 10-yard line. The second-team offense struck quickly when Quinn Ewers found receiver Kevin Coleman Jr. for a 70-yard touchdown after cornerback Marco Wilson slipped during the route.
Wide receiver AJ Henning, entering his second professional season, emerged as Sunday’s offensive standout with two touchdown receptions exceeding 50 yards—one from Willis and another from Ewers. The Dolphins’ receiving corps consistently stretched the field vertically, forcing several defensive backs to surrender explosive plays throughout the afternoon.
The defense demonstrated resilience despite the offensive barrage. Defensive tackles Kenneth Grant and Zach Sieler clogged running lanes effectively against De’Von Achane and Ollie Gordon II. Rookie cornerback Chris Johnson, selected 27th overall in the 2026 NFL Draft, produced the day’s most impressive defensive play by intercepting an Ewers pass intended for Henning near the sideline.
Linebacker Jacob Rodriguez showcased consistent activity while EDGE Josh Uche recorded pressure on Ewers, beating right tackle Austin Jackson in pass protection. The defensive effort highlighted Miami’s continued development despite the offensive unit’s dominance.
Sunday’s practice reflected a new operational direction under Hafley’s leadership, abandoning previous traditions including pre-practice fan greetings, performance-based orange jersey awards, and stadium music. The Baptist Health Training Complex featured newly installed LED video boards and expanded cooling systems to combat South Florida’s summer heat.
The Dolphins’ roster composition includes 13 draft selections from 2026, the organization’s largest draft class since the NFL transitioned to a seven-round format in 1994. Miami’s first padded practice is scheduled Monday at 9:30 a.m. at Baptist Health Training Complex.
Cornerback Darrell Baker Jr. missed Sunday’s session as he continues recovery from a lower-body injury, according to Hafley.
