Jerry Jones Expresses Confidence in Tony Romo’s Ability to Overcome Legal Troubles

Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones voiced his unwavering support for Tony Romo following the former quarterback’s recent legal troubles, telling a local Fox affiliate that he is confident Romo will navigate through the situation. Jones, who watched Romo lead the Cowboys offense for 13 seasons, said he remains in regular contact with the now-broadcaster and has no doubts about his character or resilience.

Romo was taken into custody on July 23 in Wisconsin on suspicion of operating a vehicle while intoxicated, in addition to charges related to possessing an open container and unsafe lane changes. According to police records, the 46-year-old was detained after officers observed signs of impairment following his participation in the Wisconsin Amateur Golf Championship.

During his encounter with law enforcement, Romo disputed the allegations, telling officers he had consumed no alcohol and questioned why they suspected intoxication given he was leaving a golf course. He later refused to submit to a breath test, citing legal advice he had received.

CBS Sports announced Friday that Romo would take a leave of absence from his position as the network’s lead NFL analyst, a role he has held since retiring from play in 2017. Former defensive end J.J. Watt will assume his broadcasting duties alongside play-by-play announcer Jim Nantz and sideline reporter Tracy Wolfson.

Jones praised Romo’s character and ability to overcome adversity, emphasizing his work ethic and authentic personality. The owner noted that Romo’s track record of resilience in the face of setbacks demonstrates his capacity to handle the current challenge.
