A bicycle-riding suspect was recorded on surveillance video stealing mail from Parkview Condominiums in west Miami-Dade early Friday morning, just hours after security cameras were first activated at the property. The theft occurred around 2:30 a.m., with footage showing the man wearing a backwards hat and carrying a blue bag as he moved through the residential complex.
Security installer Henry Lorie completed the camera installation Thursday, making the swift capture of the crime particularly fortuitous. “The guy just walked right up to the cameras,” Lorie said, noting the suspect appeared unaware he was being recorded. The video clearly shows the man examining mailboxes and placing stolen correspondence into his bag before departing the property.
Residents had hired Lorie after enduring repeated mail thefts at the condominium community. According to Lorie, the high-quality footage should assist law enforcement in identifying the suspect, though community members indicated the individual had been seen in the area previously but never caught in the act.
The Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office is investigating the incident. Anyone with information about the suspect is encouraged to contact Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers at 305-471-TIPS.
