Asia’s primary soccer governing body has aligned itself with other continental federations in resisting FIFA President Gianni Infantino’s proposal to bring private investors into World Cup operations. The Asian Football Confederation issued a statement Friday declaring its opposition to the scheme, which would create a $20 billion commercial subsidiary backed by New York investor Joshua Kushner.

The AFC’s position mirrors stances taken by UEFA and CONCACAF, which rejected the plan on Thursday. UEFA threatened to boycott FIFA competitions, while CONCACAF declined Infantino’s offer of $20 million payouts to individual member federations as incentive for support.

The 47-nation AFC stated the proposal “cannot realistically achieve the necessary broad consensus and unity required to move forward” and must be reconsidered. The confederation called for FIFA to conduct an immediate assessment of its internal governance structures and decision-making processes.
