A pedestrian died Monday morning after being struck by a southbound SUV on State Road 7 in central Broward County, according to the Broward Sheriff’s Office. Emergency personnel arrived at the scene near Riverland Road following a 5:48 a.m. dispatch call reporting a crash with injuries.
Bryan Kommes, 58, was pronounced dead at Broward Health Medical Center after being transported from the scene. Investigators determined that Kommes stepped into the path of a Chevrolet SUV while crossing the roadway outside of a designated crosswalk, resulting in the collision.
The driver was traveling in the right lane of State Road 7 when the incident occurred and remained at the scene to cooperate with law enforcement. Detectives found no evidence that excessive speed or driver impairment played a role in the fatal crash.
The Broward Sheriff’s Office continues its investigation into the collision. No charges have been announced at this time.
