A hair sample discovered at the residence of missing “Today” show host Savannah Guthrie’s mother failed to yield a DNA profile despite testing by the FBI and a California laboratory, Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos disclosed in remarks to Fox News Digital Thursday. The finding comes as investigators near the six-month anniversary of Nancy Guthrie’s disappearance, with the 84-year-old still missing.
Nanos explained that while DNA analysis was the logical first step in examining the evidence, the lack of a profile does not eliminate the sample’s investigative value. Authorities have preserved the hair and plan to compare it against DNA from any identified suspects in the future, the sheriff said.
The inconclusive DNA result represents one component of a broader forensic examination underway across multiple crime laboratories. Nanos indicated that genetic genealogy research and advancements in DNA technology remain central to the investigation’s strategy, though he declined to specify how many additional samples are currently being analyzed.
A single suspect captured on doorbell camera footage stands between 5 feet 9 inches and 5 feet 10 inches tall with a medium build. The individual wore a mask, long sleeves, and gloves while carrying a black Ozark Trail backpack. Authorities continue seeking tips from the public, with a combined reward exceeding $1.2 million available for information leading to an arrest.
