As NFL training camps commence throughout the league, Electronic Arts unveiled its anticipated player ratings for the upcoming “Madden NFL 27” video game Wednesday. The Los Angeles Rams quarterback Matthew Stafford and Buffalo Bills signal caller Josh Allen both secured spots in the exclusive 99 Club, tying for the league’s highest quarterback rating. Stafford edged out Allen for the top quarterback ranking despite their identical scores.
Joe Burrow ranked third among quarterbacks with a 97 overall rating, followed by Baltimore’s Lamar Jackson. Kansas City’s Patrick Mahomes earned a 93 rating in fifth place, while Detroit’s Jared Goff completed the top 10 with an 88. The quarterback ratings mark the beginning of what is typically an intense debate among fans and analysts regarding player valuations in the game.
Beyond the quarterback position, five additional players earned 99 Club status. Wide receivers Ja’Marr Chase and Jaxon Smith-Njigba, defensive end Myles Garrett and tight end Trey McBride rounded out the elite tier. The Seattle Seahawks recently extended Smith-Njigba on a four-year deal making him the NFL’s highest-paid receiver, while Chase has surpassed 1,000 receiving yards in every season since his 2021 debut.
Detroit running back Jahmyr Gibbs led all rushers with a 98 overall rating, ahead of Christian McCaffrey’s 97. Jonathan Taylor and Bijan Robinson both received 95 ratings, with Los Angeles’ Kyren Williams securing the 10th spot at running back. Among receivers, Chase and Smith-Njigba were followed by Puka Nacua, Amon-Ra St. Brown and Justin Jefferson in the top five.
Chicago Bears quarterback Caleb Williams, featured on the game’s cover, currently sits outside the 99 Club but has publicly stated his intention to reach that threshold by season’s end. Williams told “Up & Adams” on Monday that improving his completion percentage and touchdown-to-interception ratio would be necessary to achieve the ranking. “Madden NFL 27” launches worldwide August 13, with MVP+ members gaining early access beginning seven days prior.
On the team ratings front, the Los Angeles Rams earned the game’s highest overall rating at 93. The franchise-wide evaluations round out EA Sports’ comprehensive player and organizational rankings for the new installment.
