Family of Gilgo Beach Killer Reports Masked Intruders at Home as Harassment Continues

More than a month following the sentencing of Gilgo Beach serial killer Rex Heuermann, his family’s home in Massapequa Park, New York became the target of an incident involving two masked individuals. The pair, dressed in black masks, T-shirts and shorts, were documented pounding on the residence’s porch Tuesday evening before fleeing the scene, according to police accounts and statements from the family’s legal representative.

Heuermann’s ex-wife Asa Ellerup and their two children, Victoria and Christopher, were present inside the home when the banging occurred around 8 p.m., attorney Robert Macedonio said. Video footage captured the masked figures at the door as the family dog barked in response to their presence. Ellerup suspects the incident represented an attempted break-in, prompting a police report to be filed with Nassau County authorities.

However, a Nassau police spokesperson stated that investigators determined the episode did not meet the legal threshold for attempted burglary, as no one made an effort to enter the residence. Macedonio characterized the incident as part of a broader pattern of harassment the family endures regularly, including unwanted visitors, verbal taunts, and individuals photographing the property.

Heuermann received three consecutive life sentences without parole plus four consecutive 25-years-to-life sentences in June after confessing to eight murders committed between 1993 and 2010. During his sentencing hearing, he acknowledged his culpability with minimal elaboration, stating that words would lack substance.
