Russian forces unleashed a barrage of ballistic missiles against Kyiv in the early hours of Thursday, triggering multiple explosions throughout Ukraine’s capital, according to statements from Ukrainian authorities. City Mayor Vitali Klitschko instructed residents to take immediate shelter as the strikes impacted the metropolitan area. Ukrainian Air Force officials confirmed that Russia had concentrated its assault on the capital using ballistic weaponry.
Several fires broke out at non-residential structures as a result of the bombardment, Klitschko reported in subsequent statements. Officials indicated there were no casualties documented in the immediate aftermath of the strikes, though assessments continued.
The assault occurred mere hours after Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy publicly cautioned that Moscow was mobilizing forces for a substantial nighttime offensive. Based on intelligence from Air Force Commander Anatolii Kryvonozhko, Zelenskyy stated Wednesday that Russia had assembled a “massive attack several days ago” with elevated probability of execution during overnight hours, which he communicated via social media platform X.
Zelenskyy stressed that protecting civilian lives hinged directly on the willingness of international partners to supply air defense missile systems. He emphasized this concern following his recent visit to the United States, where he met with President Donald Trump.
Trump disclosed at NATO summit proceedings in Turkey that Washington would grant Ukraine authorization to manufacture Patriot air defense systems, according to reporting by The Associated Press. Zelenskyy directed his plea specifically toward nations possessing Patriot missiles and capable of deploying them to strengthen Ukraine’s defensive capabilities.
