Hialeah police arrested Christian Jose Sagrado, 49, of Miami Gardens, on Tuesday in connection with a brutal May 23 assault at a Walmart parking lot located at 400 W. 49th St. The arrest came months after the alleged incident, according to court documents released by the Hialeah Police Department.
The confrontation began when Sagrado deliberately parked his vehicle directly behind the victim’s car, blocking any means of exit, authorities said. At the time of the incident, the victim sat inside the vehicle with his pregnant girlfriend, who was eight months along, and a small child present.
According to investigators, Sagrado exited his own vehicle and approached the victim before punching him repeatedly in the face. The altercation escalated when Sagrado allegedly grabbed the man around the waist, lifted him off the ground, and forcefully slammed him onto the pavement.
The victim sustained severe injuries requiring hospitalization and emergency surgical intervention, the arrest report states. His injuries included fractures to the skull, neck, lower back, ribs and sternum, along with a significant scalp laceration and ear stitches.
Authorities charged Sagrado with aggravated battery. As of Wednesday morning, jail records indicated his bond amount remained pending determination. The arrest report made no reference to any apparent motive for the attack.
