Rogan Cautions Against Liberal Migration to Texas, Says Political Shifts Could Destabilize State

Podcaster Joe Rogan issued a stark warning Tuesday to liberal voters considering relocation to Texas, arguing that their attempt to shift the state leftward would damage the carefully balanced political ecosystem that currently exists there. During his remarks, Rogan directly addressed the trend: “The liberals that want to turn Texas blue. Like, don’t, you’re going to ruin it.” He emphasized that such demographic and political changes would harm not only conservative Texans but progressive residents as well.

Rogan has repeatedly cited his own departure from California as motivated by objection to the state’s progressive policies, particularly those enacted during the COVID-19 pandemic response. He characterized coastal progressives as harboring misconceptions about Texas, noting that many dismiss the state’s residents as backwards. Austin stands out as an exception in his view—a thriving progressive hub that maintains what he described as reasonable and pragmatic liberal positions unlike those found in Los Angeles or New York.

Using the phrase “Keep Austin Weird and Surrounded,” Rogan illustrated his point about the value of political diversity. The saying, he explained, refers to Austin’s status as an island of blue voters encircled by conservative red-state voters. He argued this arrangement creates beneficial balance and cited the natural world as analogy: ecosystems require predators and prey in proper proportion to function, and human societies similarly require ideological counterbalance.

Rogan specifically warned against liberals relocating to Republican-led states while voting for the same progressive policies they fled. He criticized California’s approach to crime and homelessness, claiming retailers must lock merchandise due to theft and that numerous businesses have closed in response. He said he detected no course correction in state leadership, only increasingly lenient crime policies and expanded spending.

Texas and Florida have emerged as top destinations for Americans seeking lower taxes, employment opportunities and improved quality of life. Texas attracted 56,473 new tax filers in 2023, leading the nation in population inflow and reflecting broader regional migration patterns favoring southern states.
