Bodycam Footage Captures Tony Romo’s Objections During Wisconsin DUI Arrest

Newly released police bodycam footage from Tony Romo’s July 23 arrest on suspicion of operating while intoxicated in Wisconsin reveals the former Dallas Cowboys quarterback disputing the traffic stop with the arresting officer. Romo claimed he had consumed no alcohol and had just completed a round at the Wisconsin Amateur Golf Championship when pulled over on an interstate. He immediately requested to contact his attorney before complying with the officer’s initial instructions.

The arresting officer noted observable signs of impairment, including red and glassy eyes and the scent of alcohol on Romo’s breath. After Romo exited the vehicle and completed field sobriety tests at a nearby police station, he declined to submit to a breath test, citing legal advice he had received. “I’ve heard from all the lawyers don’t ever do that,” Romo told the officer, according to the footage obtained by Fox News Digital.

Romo was cited for first-offense operating while intoxicated and refusal to submit to a chemical test. He subsequently withdrew from an appearance at the M&P Group Texas State Open golf tournament. A court date is scheduled for September 21, and CBS has not issued a statement regarding the incident.

Romo retired from professional football in 2017 and joined CBS Sports as a color commentator. The quarterback spent most of his career with Dallas, serving as the team’s starter from 2006 until an injury sidelined him in 2016, when Dak Prescott took over the position. Romo finished his playing career with 34,183 passing yards, 248 touchdowns, and a 65.3 completion percentage while earning four Pro Bowl selections.
