Jackson Koivun claimed his maiden PGA Tour victory at the 3M Open this past weekend, emerging victorious in just his third professional start. The 21-year-old former Auburn standout carded a flawless 66 in the final round to edge world No. 1 Scottie Scheffler, who fired a 63 himself, by three strokes.
Koivun’s ascent from amateur ranks to PGA Tour winner represents one of golf’s fastest transitions to success. The California native won virtually every collegiate honor at Auburn before turning professional following a T-23 finish at the 2026 U.S. Open. Though he missed the cut at his professional debut at the John Deere Classic, his performance at the 3M Open showcased the elite-level play that earned him the “next big thing” designation throughout his amateur career.
His statistical dominance throughout the 72-hole event proved staggering for a debut winner. Koivun missed only 11 greens and 12 fairways across four rounds while posting just three bogeys total. His approach work generated nine shots on the field alone, numbers rarely seen from players making their third professional appearance.
Beyond Koivun’s maiden victory, Lucas Glover provided Sunday’s most memorable subplot when he removed his shoes after sinking a birdie putt on the 10th hole. The 2009 U.S. Open champion placed his footwear on the fringe before completing his round, reportedly following an official’s directive to minimize spike mark damage on the greens. Whether the gesture also represented a protest against the AimPoint method—a Glover criticism—remains open to interpretation.
