TikTok Influencer Found Dead in Apparent Murder-Suicide After Accusing Estranged Husband of Child Abuse

Content creator Sara Gilson, known online as Sara Duffey, was discovered dead alongside her estranged husband at her Oklahoma residence on July 24 in what authorities believe may have been a murder-suicide. The deaths came approximately two weeks after Gilson posted a TikTok video alleging that her husband, 48-year-old Jeremiah “Shawn” Duffey, was a pedophile. The video, posted July 11 with a caption referencing a potential Netflix documentary, remained visible on her account as of the following Saturday.

Officers responding to a domestic disturbance call discovered both Gilson, 41, and Duffey deceased from apparent gunshot wounds, according to reporting by local station KTUL. An extended family member identified the bodies and stated that Duffey allegedly forced his way into the home, fatally shot Gilson, and then took his own life. While police confirmed the couple’s identities through KRMG, they declined to officially characterize the incident as a murder-suicide at the time.

Gilson had obtained a protective order against Duffey on June 10, requiring him to maintain a distance of at least 100 yards from her. On the same date, another woman filed a separate protective order against Duffey after he was allegedly observed “kissing and fondling” her 15-year-old daughter, who participated on a youth basketball team that Duffey coached, The Oklahoman reported.

Authorities stated that the 911 call originated from a juvenile present inside the home. The second woman’s complaint alleged that Duffey had sent the teenager inappropriate messages and provided her money to remain silent about their interactions. A report was subsequently filed with the Owasso Police Department following the alleged incident.

Court records indicate that Gilson had filed two previous protective orders against Duffey, though both were ultimately dismissed after she failed to appear at scheduled hearings, according to People magazine. The couple shared children together. Police confirmed there was no ongoing public safety threat related to the incident.
