Two individuals were discovered fatally shot inside a parked vehicle on the University of Chicago campus Thursday evening, authorities confirmed. The victims — a 27-year-old woman and a 24-year-old man — were found at approximately 5:35 p.m. on the 5900 block of South Ellis near Midway Plaisance Ice Skating Rink and Harper Quad, according to police reports cited by NBC 5 Chicago.
Both victims sustained gunshot wounds to the head, police said. The two were initially transported to the university hospital in critical condition before being pronounced dead, authorities stated. It remains unknown whether either victim had an affiliation with the university.
Officers recovered a firearm at the scene, police reported. Video footage from the location showed the vehicle sustained damage consistent with a crash that occurred either during or immediately following the shooting incident, NBC 5 Chicago noted.
Chicago Police Department officials said the case remains under active investigation with limited details available for release at this time. The department did not immediately respond to additional requests for information about potential suspects or a motive.
