The Philadelphia 76ers have secured the best odds to capture the Eastern Conference title next season after signing LeBron James to a two-year, $8 million contract. Oddsmakers at Kalshi have installed the 76ers at +684 in American odds as of Friday, July 24, positioning them ahead of defending NBA champion New York Knicks, who sit at +1240 in the betting market.
This represents the second major roster overhaul for Philadelphia this offseason. The team previously acquired 2024 NBA Finals MVP Jaylen Brown from the Boston Celtics in exchange for Paul George, establishing a formidable core alongside 2022-23 NBA MVP Joel Embiid, All-Star guard Tyrese Maxey, and Rookie of the Year runner-up V.J. Edgecombe.
Brown averaged career-highs in points, rebounds, and assists during the previous season while maintaining an exceptional injury record. James, 41 years old, produced 20.9 points on 51.5% shooting along with 6.1 rebounds and 7.2 assists across 60 games with the Los Angeles Lakers in his final season with the franchise.
Questions persist regarding whether this star-laden roster can coexist effectively. James’ ball-dominant style and Brown’s preference for isolation scoring from mid-range may create spacing and usage conflicts. The 76ers’ success depends heavily on Embiid’s durability and returning to near-MVP form, a challenge given his injury history and defensive decline from his prime years.
Tyrese Maxey’s willingness to accept a diminished role presents another uncertainty, having led the 76ers in scoring last season despite Embiid recording the highest usage rate. The Knicks, retaining their championship roster intact with players in their athletic primes, warrant consideration as serious contenders if the teams meet in playoff matchups.
