Five Republicans Battle for Wasserman Schultz’s Redrawn Florida House Seat

Five Republican contenders are running to claim the U.S. House seat vacated by Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz in Florida’s redrawn 25th Congressional District, according to Federal Election Commission filings. The field includes Scott M. Singer, Daniel J. Franzese, George R. Moraitis, Raven Harrison, and Joe Kaufman. The candidates faced off during the GOP’s Sunshine State Showdown on June 27 in Hollywood.

Singer, 49, leads the field in fundraising with $1.99 million in total receipts as of June 30, FEC records show. A Georgetown Law graduate and former three-term Boca Raton mayor born in Miami Beach, Singer emphasized his appeal to swing voters while highlighting his Jewish Republican credentials. Franzese, a University of Pennsylvania Wharton School MBA graduate from 1989, ranks second with $1.47 million in receipts, drawing on his background as a retired finance executive and portfolio manager.

Moraitis, 55, a retired U.S. Navy Reserve lieutenant commander and real estate attorney who served in the Florida House representing District 93 from 2010 to 2018, has raised $839,000. Born in Fort Lauderdale, Moraitis pledged to fight wasteful federal spending and reduce government size. Harrison, a Temple University graduate and military spouse from Texas, has amassed $778,000 and advocated for fresh congressional representation to replace long-serving incumbents.

Kaufman, a counterterrorism expert known as the “Terrorist Hunter,” trails with $631,500 raised and emphasized his national security background and work shutting down terrorist financing operations. Key election dates include an Aug. 6 mail-in ballot request deadline, the Aug. 18 Democratic primary, and the Nov. 3 general election.
