State Rep. Enrique Sanchez, a Rhode Island Democrat, unleashed a profanity-laden tirade against U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement in a Wednesday post on social media, declaring that “your day of reckoning will come” for the agency’s deportation operations. Sanchez’s inflammatory message marked an intensification of his sustained criticism of ICE tactics, which he has previously characterized as authoritarian.
The lawmaker, elected to the state House in 2022 and employed as a case manager assisting undocumented immigrants, described his experience combating ICE enforcement actions as deeply damaging. In his post, he referenced his efforts defending “hundreds and hundreds of our community members in Providence and across Rhode Island” against federal immigration agents.
Sanchez has maintained a pattern of aggressive public condemnation of ICE operations. In August 2025, he referred to officers as “Nazi Gestapo thugs” following an agency action in Providence that he said damaged resident vehicles. Two weeks later, he again invoked similar language while calling for accountability.
His latest remarks came after an ICE agent fatally shot Joan Sebastian Guerrero, 26, a Colombian national, during a July 13 traffic stop in Maine. Authorities said Guerrero appeared to accelerate toward federal agents before being shot, though an eyewitness account suggested the sequence of events differed from the official account.
Fox News Digital sought comment from Sanchez, ICE, the Department of Homeland Security, and both state political parties regarding the lawmaker’s statement.
