Six Passengers Arrested at Port Canaveral on Outstanding Warrants and Probation Violations

Brevard County sheriff’s deputies arrested six individuals at Port Canaveral who attempted to board or return from cruise ships while facing active warrants and alleged violations of their release conditions. Sheriff Wayne Ivey announced the apprehensions in a social media statement, describing the county jail as his “Iron Bar Lodge” for those caught breaking the law in his jurisdiction.

The most significant arrest involved Martell Murray, 24, of Georgia, who was taken into custody on an out-of-state fugitive warrant. Murray faced allegations that he violated conditions of his release in connection with pending murder charges, according to the Brevard County Sheriff’s Office and jail records. The sheriff’s office provided no additional details about the alleged victim, the investigating jurisdiction, or the specific release condition Murray violated.

Murray’s travel companion, Kenderia Burney, 24, was also detained on a violation-of-probation warrant. Both individuals were booked into the Brevard County Jail on July 17 and remained held without bond as of Wednesday, with Murray classified as an out-of-state fugitive and Burney held on an out-of-county warrant.

Four additional passengers encountered similar legal troubles. Veronica Hamlet, 38, of Tampa, was arrested on a failure-to-appear warrant and released the following day after posting a $1,000 bond. James Otha Brewton, 66, of Allendale, South Carolina, faced a probation violation warrant and was released July 18 after posting $500 bond.

Two other passengers were intercepted as they disembarked from their cruise and were found to be on felony probation while having allegedly left the country without authorization from their probation officers. The sheriff’s office did not release their identities or the crimes for which they were on probation, though authorities stated they would be held pending completion of required paperwork by probation officials.

Ivey stressed that law enforcement would pursue anyone committing crimes or carrying warrants within Brevard County, regardless of their state of origin. The sheriff’s office did not identify the specific cruise ships or lines involved in the arrests.
