Pelosi Declines to Comment on Husband’s Hit-and-Run Misdemeanor Charge

Former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., avoided answering media inquiries about a misdemeanor hit-and-run charge filed against her husband Paul, declining to engage when pressed on whether she considered the charge appropriate. Fox News Digital approached the former Democratic leader as she walked toward her vehicle, but she refused to provide any statement on the matter.

Paul Pelosi, 86, now faces potential penalties including up to six months in county jail, fines reaching $1,000, or both, according to charges filed Friday by the Napa County District Attorney’s Office. The incident occurred July 3 when Pelosi allegedly struck a parked Tesla while driving his Maserati convertible and failed to attempt contact with the vehicle’s owner or leave identifying information at the scene.

After the collision, Pelosi’s vehicle broke down approximately half a mile from the crash site, where sheriff’s deputies located him. Pelosi told authorities he realized he had struck something but was uncertain what it was and intended to return to the location later.

In response to the incident, authorities mandated that Pelosi complete a behind-the-wheel driving evaluation to assess his ability to safely operate a motor vehicle. Pelosi was also cited with an infraction for making an unsafe turn related to the same collision.

This represents the second significant driving incident involving the elder Pelosi in recent years. In 2022, he pleaded guilty to driving under the influence after colliding with an oncoming Jeep and injuring its occupant, resulting in a misdemeanor conviction. Historical records indicate Pelosi was operating a vehicle in a 1957 incident that resulted in the death of his 19-year-old brother, though a jury cleared him of any legal responsibility.

During the same media encounter, reporters also questioned Pelosi about her recent vote in favor of an amendment by Rep. Thomas Massie, R-Ky., to reduce U.S. military aid to Israel by $3.3 billion. The amendment failed 314-104, with Massie as the only Republican supporter, though over 100 House Democrats voted in favor of the measure.

The vote reflects growing internal Democratic pressure regarding the nation’s Middle East policy, particularly concerning Israel’s military operations in Gaza and Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s leadership. Recent primary election results have demonstrated voter sentiment favoring progressive candidates critical of Israeli actions, with several anti-establishment nominees defeating mainstream Democratic incumbents as they advance toward November general elections.
