Miami police arrested Justin Ramirez, 24, of Sunny Isles Beach, on Friday in connection with an early-July drive-by shooting that wounded three people in the Allapattah neighborhood. Investigators allege that Ramirez fired multiple shots from a moving Audi Q8 SUV into a rented green BMW near Northwest 22nd Avenue and 36th Street around 8:10 p.m. on July 5. A 2-year-old child was inside the BMW but sustained no injuries during the attack.
The three victims sought treatment at Jackson Memorial Hospital after the shooting. Police said the victims were traveling from Broward County toward the Brickell area at the time of the incident. The arrest report does not specify a motive for the shooting.
Detectives identified the Audi Q8 through video surveillance footage of the shooting and traced ownership of the vehicle to another individual. The breakthrough came when investigators discovered that Ramirez received a traffic citation in Lauderhill while operating the same vehicle. License plate reader data further placed the Audi near Bayfront Park on July 1, the same date Ramirez posted social media images from the FIFA Fan Fest, including a photograph showing him in the Audi holding what police describe as a bottle containing promethazine codeine syrup, commonly referred to as “purple drank.”
Detectives executed a search warrant on the vehicle on July 9 and recovered multiple latent fingerprints matching Ramirez. Cell phone records provided additional evidence placing Ramirez at the crime scene. Officers took him into custody just after 12:45 p.m. Friday in a North Miami Beach neighborhood.
Ramirez faces four counts of attempted murder along with additional charges. Court records show he posted a $90,000 bond and was released from jail. He has prior state prison time for armed robbery.
