Spain’s triumph in Sunday’s World Cup final devolved into conflict moments after the concluding whistle, with multiple players from both squads engaging in a heated physical confrontation at East Rutherford, New Jersey. Video documentation captured Argentina defender Leandro Paredes appearing to grab Spain’s Eric Garcia around the neck area before shoving him, with the incident escalating when Spain substitute Gavi attempted to intervene and was subsequently pushed to the ground by Paredes.
Argentina coach Lionel Scaloni and additional players from both teams quickly moved to separate the combatants and restore order. It remains unclear whether FIFA will pursue disciplinary action against any of the involved players, as the international governing body has not yet issued a statement regarding the matter.
Spain secured a 1-0 victory in extra time after Argentina was reduced to 10 players when midfielder Enzo Fernandez received a second yellow card.
