Los Angeles defeated New York 2-1 on Friday night at Yankee Stadium, with Max Muncy’s two-run homer in the seventh inning providing the winning margin. The contest marked the Dodgers’ first visit to the Bronx since capturing the 2024 World Series title as champions.
Muncy connected on a hanging slider from Yankees pitcher Gerrit Cole for his 18th home run of the season. The blast came after the Dodgers infielder rallied from an 0-2 deficit to even the count at 2-2 before launching the ball into the right-field second deck on Cole’s 103rd pitch.
Cole (3-5) took the loss despite striking out eight batters and keeping the game tight through six innings. Manager Aaron Boone visited the mound before the seventh-inning sequence but chose to leave the 35-year-old right-hander in the game.
The Yankees’ only run scored in the fourth inning without a base hit. Jasson Domínguez doubled and advanced to third when Andy Pages misplayed the ball in shallow center, then scored on a passed ball by catcher Dalton Rushing.
Jack Dreyer (4-1) earned the victory for the Dodgers, striking out Domínguez with runners in scoring position during the sixth. Tanner Scott recorded his 14th save in 16 opportunities by pitching a scoreless ninth inning.
Dodgers starter Roki Sasaki surrendered the unearned run and five hits across 5 2/3 innings while reaching 100 mph on his fastball 21 times. The pitcher has struggled since May, compiling a 0-2 record with a 5.05 ERA over eight recent starts.
The Dodgers lead the major leagues at 62-36, while the Yankees stand at 54-43. New York continues without captain Aaron Judge, sidelined by a fractured rib.

The teams continue their series Saturday with Yankees left-hander Ryan Weathers (3-7, 4.15 ERA) facing Dodgers right-hander Emmet Sheehan (4-6, 4.81 ERA).
