Taylor Farms Pulls Mexican Lettuce from U.S. Stores Over Parasite Contamination Concerns

Taylor Farms said Friday that it is voluntarily removing all iceberg lettuce sourced at a central Mexico farm from the United States market.

Taylor Farms, one of the nation’s largest fresh produce distributors, announced a voluntary withdrawal of iceberg lettuce from a central Mexican facility on Friday. The recall affects products currently stocked in American supermarkets and retail chains that source from the company.

The action was prompted by potential parasitic contamination that poses a risk of cyclosporiasis, a gastrointestinal illness contracted through consumption of contaminated food or water. The parasite responsible for the disease can cause severe illness in infected individuals.

The distributor chose to remove the affected lettuce without awaiting government direction, demonstrating what the company characterized as a proactive approach to safeguarding public health. The recall remains in effect pending the completion of the ongoing investigation into the contamination source.
