Tyler Wilkin, 35, was discovered dead with a single gunshot wound to the back of his head at Playa La Selva, a secluded beach near Luquillo in Puerto Rico on July 10, according to local media reports. Wilkin had relocated to Puerto Rico from Ohio in 2024 and was camping at the remote location when he was killed in what authorities are investigating as an execution-style murder.

In the days before his death, Wilkin sent a series of text messages to his girlfriend, Iva Mo, and friends describing unsettling activity near his campsite. He reported hearing eerie howling sounds outside his tent and what he believed were fireworks, with follow-up messages stating “the howler is back” and later that the person was “getting rowdy lol,” according to FOX 19 Cincinnati.

Wilkin’s family and friends have organized a fundraiser to finance a private investigator to examine the case independently. The fundraiser page stated: “We are determined to leave no stone unturned in the pursuit of the truth, and these additional funds will help us cover any and all expenses that may arise during the private investigation.”

An obituary described Wilkin, a native of Wilmington, Ohio, as someone who enjoyed beach activities, tennis, hiking and rock climbing. He is survived by his parents and four siblings. Fox News Digital has requested additional details from Policía de Puerto Rico regarding the ongoing investigation.
