Chiefs Coordinator Eric Bieniemy’s Wife Released From ICU Following Shooting Incident

Mia Bieniemy, wife of Kansas City Chiefs offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy, has made significant progress in her recovery following a shooting at their Ashburn, Virginia residence. Head coach Andy Reid provided an encouraging update Wednesday from the team’s training camp, stating that she has left intensive care and continues to improve.

“She’s doing great. She’s doing better and great from where she was,” Reid said to assembled reporters. “Out of the ICU unit, happy about that. EB is still with her, that part’s important.” Reid’s comments suggest that Bieniemy has remained at his wife’s side throughout her hospitalization.

Authorities responded to the couple’s home on Northpark Drive on Sunday evening, where they discovered that Mia had sustained multiple gunshot wounds. Officers arrested the couple’s 27-year-old son, Elijah Zion Bieniemy, on charges including malicious wounding, felony firearm use, and reckless discharge of a firearm inside a residence, according to the Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office.

Elijah Zion Bieniemy was transported to the Loudoun County Adult Detention Center, where he is being held without bond. The incident occurred as the Chiefs organization ramped up for the 2024 season, with coaching staff and rookies arriving Friday and veteran players joining Tuesday.

Bieniemy, 56, rejoined Kansas City this year as offensive coordinator following stints with the Washington Commanders, Chicago Bears, and UCLA. During his previous tenure with the Chiefs from 2018 through 2022, he orchestrated one of the NFL’s most potent offenses, helping the team capture two Super Bowl championships during that span.
