The footage, recorded by PBS, captures Fauci and Mayor Muriel Bowser canvassing the Anacostia neighborhood to promote COVID-19 vaccines to residents who expressed significant reservations about the shots.
The clip documents multiple residents challenging Fauci over vaccine development timelines, long-term safety data, and federal messaging regarding immunizations. One resident directly questioned why a vaccine that typically requires years to develop was produced in what he characterized as “miraculous time,” while another expressed suspicion about government incentive programs encouraging vaccination.
The resurfaced material has drawn sharp criticism on social media, with commentary ranging from praise for the resident’s skepticism to comparisons invoking the historical Tuskegee syphilis study. The timing coincides with publication of Fauci’s personal diary, which critics argue contains statements contradicting his public positions on COVID-19 response measures.
Fauci declined to comment to Fox News Digital on the video’s circulation. He testified before the Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee on Wednesday, where he invoked the Fifth Amendment approximately 111 times in response to lawmakers’ questions, prompting committee chairman Sen. Rand Paul to signal a vote on certifying contempt of Congress charges.
President Donald Trump criticized Fauci ahead of the hearing, stating on Truth Social that he had relied increasingly less on the physician during his administration and warned President Joe Biden against granting him expanded authority, a call Trump said went unheeded.
