A residential property on Hemp Lane in Hicksville fell victim to a lightning strike in the predawn hours of Wednesday, with the bolt striking the front of the structure shortly after 3:15 a.m. The violent impact jolted residents awake and triggered a fire that threatened the single-family dwelling as severe weather swept through the area.
The home belongs to a firefighter, whose family was able to evacuate safely following the strike. Emergency responders arrived at the scene to extinguish the blaze and assess damage to the property, which sustained significant impact from both the electrical discharge and subsequent flames.
