President Donald Trump on Wednesday morning threatened Iran with severe retaliation following an overnight ballistic missile attack by the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps on American military installations in Jordan. Speaking to Fox News foreign correspondent Trey Yingst, Trump pledged a forceful response, stating that Iranian forces would face a significant beating from U.S. personnel.
The Iranian paramilitary force targeted the Muwaffaq Salti Air Base and U.S. Central Command headquarters in Jordan, according to a statement from the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps carried by Iran’s state news agency IRNA. U.S. Central Command confirmed that all incoming Iranian ballistic missiles were successfully intercepted by American forces who had only minutes to respond to the threat.
Jordan’s military reported that five Iranian missiles were destroyed and intercepted, with no immediate reports of casualties or property damage at either location. Trump stated he had reviewed video footage documenting U.S. personnel coordinating defensive operations in real time during the interception efforts.
In response to the Iranian attack, U.S. and Saudi fighter aircraft struck multiple Iran-backed Shiite militia logistics and weapons facilities in eastern Iraq. The Saudi Defense Ministry said the kingdom does not seek escalation but will respond to any future aggression, while Trump confirmed the strikes were coordinated with Iraqi officials.
Trump characterized the Iran-backed militias as a “cancer on the world” and indicated that additional warnings directed at Iranian proxy forces were under consideration. Despite the military tensions, the president signaled willingness to maintain diplomatic channels, saying talks with Iran would continue through appropriate channels.
