A 911 dispatcher reported hearing a woman’s distressed cries and a loud gunshot sound moments before TikTok influencer Sara Gilson, also known as Sara Duffey, was found dead alongside her husband in what authorities are treating as a murder-suicide. The Owasso, Oklahoma police department discovered both bodies on July 23 following a call about a domestic violence situation at the home.
The dispatcher’s recorded conversation documented hearing “a female in the background screaming and crying” as well as “some sort of loud bang.” A child present in the house subsequently called 911 to report that his stepfather had shot his mother, according to KTUL News.
Sara Duffey had publicly accused her husband, Jeremiah Shawn Duffey, of pedophilia weeks before her death in a TikTok post dated July 11. She captioned the video: “Preparing for when Netflix drops a documentary about my soon to be ex husband who I just found out is a pedophile.”
A parent and child filed a complaint with Owasso Police on June 9, alleging that Jeremiah Shawn Duffey, a basketball coach, had inappropriately touched a female child at a school event. Police indicated he faced prior similar accusations, including a lewd molestation charge that was referred to the U.S. Attorney’s Office.
Following the June complaint, Sara Duffey obtained an emergency protective order removing her husband from the home. Another woman filed a separate protective order the same day, alleging he had been “kissing and fondling” her 15-year-old daughter, a player on his youth basketball team, and had given the girl money to remain silent, according to The Oklahoman.
Lyle Landers, Sara Duffey’s former husband, told People magazine he had repeatedly urged her to leave. “I had begged her for five years to get away from him. But he seemed to have some sort of control over her,” Landers said, describing her as a devoted mother whose protective instincts toward children ultimately cost her life.
