Dylan Mulvaney, a prominent transgender influencer, responded Sunday to a joke President Donald Trump made about the social media personality during Friday night’s White House Correspondent’s Association Dinner. Trump’s remarks, which drew significant online attention, compared Mulvaney to CNN anchor Kaitlan Collins during his nearly hour-long address to the gathering.
In a TikTok video posted two days after the event, Mulvaney characterized the president’s public criticism as validation rather than mockery. “Maybe being publicly mocked and criticized by this administration is actually like the greatest compliment of all,” Mulvaney stated, noting that such attention placed them “in the company of some of the most brilliant, empathetic people in our world today.”
Trump’s joke referenced a 2023 marketing partnership between Mulvaney and Bud Light centered on a March Madness promotion. “I thought Kaitlan Collins had really made it big with a major new sponsorship, but then I informed her that it wasn’t her on the Bud Light can, it was Dylan Mulvaney,” Trump said, alluding to the beer brand’s failed campaign that resulted in a $27 billion market capitalization loss for Anheuser-Busch.
The WHCA Dinner remarks also targeted Collins, a longtime Trump adversary, with the president criticizing her demeanor and questioning the legitimacy of her Excellence in Presidential News Coverage award, which she received for reporting on a February 2025 meeting between Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.
Collins responded indirectly through an Instagram post featuring a quote attributed to Eleanor Roosevelt: “No one can make you feel inferior without your consent.” CNN’s leadership issued a formal statement defending its journalists and reaffirming the network’s commitment to independent reporting protected by the First Amendment.
Mulvaney concluded their video by thanking Trump for the attention and quoting recording artist Shea Diamond. “To the president, thank you for reminding me that I am more powerful than I even knew,” the influencer said.
