Elaine Escoe, identified as one of the Federal Bureau of Investigation’s most wanted suspects and a resident of Palm Beach County, has been taken into custody following her international escape. The arrest culminates a nearly two-month search by federal agents who had been pursuing the South Florida woman across state lines and international borders.
Escoe was originally arrested in May on accusations of orchestrating a massive fraud scheme centered on pandemic relief funds. Prosecutors allege she submitted approximately 90 fraudulent applications seeking Paycheck Protection Program benefits, with the total value of requested funds reaching $32 million.
After her May arrest, Escoe failed to appear at a scheduled court proceeding in June, prompting a manhunt that eventually led agents to Jamaica. FBI officials received credible intelligence indicating that Escoe had traveled to the Caribbean island nation in an attempt to evade prosecution.
Jamaican authorities assisted U.S. law enforcement in locating and apprehending Escoe before she was extradited back to the United States to face federal charges, the FBI confirmed.
