The Chicago Sky dominated the Los Angeles Lakers on Friday night, with five players scoring in double figures to power a convincing victory. The well-balanced offensive performance showcased the team’s depth despite ongoing roster challenges on the injury front.
Guard Skylar Diggins missed the contest as she continues rehabilitation from knee surgery performed in October. The veteran has yet to return to full practice participation, with the team providing no timeline for her competitive return as she works through the recovery process with medical staff.
Diggins acknowledged steady progress in her healing efforts before Friday’s game, telling media outlets that her priority remains rehabilitation without complications. She has been maintaining open dialogue with head coach Tyler Marsh regarding her role within the organization following her recent demotion to a reserve position earlier this month.
The guard expressed surprise at the coaching staff’s decision to move her to the bench without adequate advance notice, though she stated her willingness to accept whatever role contributes to the team’s championship aspirations. Diggins attributed some of the team’s weaknesses this season to her earlier attempts to play through pain.
She also commented on construction delays affecting the Sky’s planned new facility at Bedford Park, which will not be ready for use until after the season concludes. The facility’s postponed opening represents a missed opportunity for the team and injured players during the active season.
Center Elizabeth Williams reached a historic milestone Friday, breaking into the WNBA’s all-time top 10 shot-blockers with 508 career rejections. Williams attributed her defensive success to meticulous opponent preparation and positioning that prevents offensive attacks before they develop.
Williams sits within striking distance of the five-block leaders, with former Sky star Candace Parker currently holding the fifth spot at 619 blocks. Williams could realistically surpass Parker’s total with consistent performance throughout the remainder of her career.
Undrafted rookie guard Sydney Taylor has emerged as a reliable scoring weapon, averaging 13 points per game for the Sky. Taylor delivered an impressive performance Friday against Los Angeles, connecting on four three-pointers while accumulating 19 points.
Center Kamilla Cardoso returned to action Friday after an absence, contributing 13 points, 11 rebounds and three assists across 23 minutes of play. Her return to the lineup provided additional depth in the frontcourt for Chicago’s balanced attack.
