One Killed, Six Wounded in Gunfire at Unauthorized California Party Attended by Hundreds

A shooting at a sprawling unauthorized gathering in rural California on Saturday evening claimed one life and left six others hospitalized with injuries. The violence erupted shortly after 10 p.m. in Morgan Hill, approximately 25 miles south of San Jose, according to the Santa Clara County Sheriff’s Office.

The event was an unvetted party that circulated across social media platforms and drew more than 300 attendees to the area. Deputies initially arrived responding to complaints of intoxicated individuals in roadways and reports of bottles being thrown at vehicles, only to discover the scene had descended into chaos following gunfire.

Emergency responders administered aid at the scene, though one victim was pronounced dead before medical personnel could transport them. A second wave of victims sustained gunshot wounds and were transferred to regional hospitals for treatment, officials confirmed.

Detectives indicated the shooter wielded a handgun but have yet to publicly name any suspects. Homicide investigators characterized the incident as isolated but cautioned that the probe would prove “lengthy and complex.”

Santa Clara County Sheriff Robert Jonsen released a statement condemning the violence as “tragic and senseless,” expressing sympathy for the deceased’s family and injured survivors. He pledged that authorities would “work tirelessly” to identify and prosecute those responsible for the shooting.

Multiple law enforcement agencies converged on the location, including units from the Morgan Hill Police Department, Gilroy Police Department, California Highway Patrol, and San Jose Police Department.
